Manila Declares January 9, 2025, a Special Non-Working Day
In a recent proclamation from Malacañan Palace, the President of the Philippines has declared Thursday, January 9, 2025, as a special non-working day in the City of Manila. This decision, outlined in Proclamation No. 766, is in anticipation of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, a significant religious event that draws millions of devotees to Quiapo Church and the surrounding areas.
The proclamation highlights the importance of ensuring an orderly procession of devotees and managing the flow of traffic in the city. The City of Manila requested this special non-working day to facilitate these needs, recognizing the massive influx of people expected to participate in the festivities.
Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, under the authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., officially signed the proclamation, emphasizing the government's commitment to supporting the cultural and religious practices of its citizens while maintaining public order and safety.
This special non-working day will allow residents and visitors to fully engage in the religious observances without the usual constraints of work and traffic, ensuring a smoother and more meaningful celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
