In an effort to support patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 (CKD5), PhilHealth has significantly increased its benefit package for hemodialysis. Starting from October 9, 2024, the state health insurer has raised the coverage from P4,000 per session in July to P6,350 per session, bringing the total annual financial package to nearly P1 million per patient. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on patients and their families.

PhilHealth Circular No. 2024-0023 outlines these new benefits, ensuring that patients no longer need to make co-payments for the minimum set of dialysis services. This comprehensive package includes essential medications, laboratory tests, and administrative fees, addressing the financial challenges previously faced by patients.

Emmanuel R. Ledesma, Jr., PhilHealth President and CEO, emphasized the organization's dedication to listening to its members and adapting benefit packages accordingly. Despite the earlier increase to P4,000 per session, patients still faced significant out-of-pocket expenses. The new package aims to eliminate these additional costs.

The circular also specifies that additional services beyond the minimum standard of care will require co-payment, with a cap of P450 for professional fees. This ensures that patients receive comprehensive care without financial strain.

This development has been welcomed by patients and healthcare providers alike, offering renewed hope and financial relief to those undergoing dialysis. PhilHealth assures all members, including those overseas, of its continued support and commitment to their health needs.
