Understanding Your Holiday Pay for April 2025
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has released Labor Advisory No. 04, Series of 2025, detailing the correct payment of wages for the upcoming regular holidays and one special non-working day in April 2025. This guide breaks down the official pay rules to help both employers and employees ensure proper wage computation.
The advisory is based on Proclamation No. 839, Series of 2025, and Proclamation No. 727, Series of 2024.
Covered Holidays in April 2025
Employees are entitled to holiday pay on the following dates:
April 1, 2025 (Tuesday) - Eid'l Fitr (Regular Holiday)
April 9, 2025 (Wednesday) - Araw ng Kagitingan (Regular Holiday)
April 17, 2025 (Thursday) - Maundy Thursday (Regular Holiday)
April 18, 2025 (Friday) - Good Friday (Regular Holiday)
April 19, 2025 (Saturday) - Black Saturday (Special Non-Working Day)
Pay Rules for Regular Holidays
The following rules apply for the regular holidays on April 1, 9, 17, and 18, 2025.
1. If the Employee Does Not Work
The employee shall be paid 100% of their wage for that day. This is calculated as: Basicwage×100%. This is provided that the employee reports to work or is on a paid leave of absence on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.
2. If the Employee Works
For work done during the regular holiday, the employee shall be paid a total of 200% of their wage for the first eight hours. The formula is: Basicwage×200%.
3. For Overtime Work
For work done in excess of eight hours, the employee shall be paid an additional 30% of the hourly rate on said day. The computation is: (Hourlyrateofthebasicwage×200%)×130%×numberofhoursworked.
4. If Work Falls on the Employee's Rest Day
For work done during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee’s rest day, the employer shall pay an additional 30% of the basic wage of 200%. The formula is: (Basicwage×200%)×130%.
5. For Overtime Work on a Holiday and Rest Day
For work in excess of eight hours during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee's rest day, the employee will be paid an additional 30% of the hourly rate on that day. The computation is: (Hourlyrateofthebasicwage×200%×130%)×130%×numberofhoursworked.
Pay Rules for the Special (Non-Working) Day
The following rules apply for the special non-working day on April 19, 2025 (Black Saturday).
1. If the Employee Does Not Work
The 'no work, no pay' principle shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special day.
2. If the Employee Works
For work done during the special non-working day, the employee shall be paid an additional 30% of their basic wage for the first eight hours. The formula is: (Basicwage×130%).
3. For Overtime Work
For work done in excess of eight hours, the employee shall be paid an additional 30% of the hourly rate on said day. The computation is: (Hourlyrateofthebasicwage×130%)×130%×numberofhoursworked.
4. If Work Falls on the Employee's Rest Day
For work done on a special non-working day that also falls on the employee’s rest day, the employer shall pay an additional 50% of the basic wage for the first eight hours. The formula is: (Basicwage×150%).
5. For Overtime Work on a Special Day and Rest Day
For work in excess of eight hours during a special day that also falls on the employee's rest day, the employee will be paid an additional 30% of the hourly rate on that day. The computation is: (Hourlyrateofthebasicwage×150%)×130%×numberofhoursworked.
